Create a Route Using the Map

This article explains how to draw a shape on the large map and create a new route using the map markers inside it.

Before You Begin

You must have TeleRoute and Routing to create a list from the large map. You must have something on the map for Trash Flow to use when creating the list: a route, customers, work orders, or container placements.

Part I: Draw the Map Boundary

  1. Open the Large Map. You can open the map by clicking TeleRoute > Routes > Show a Route and entering one of your routes. The map can also be opened from a container placement, the Teleroute button, the Dispatch window, the Map tab on a customer account, etc.
  2. Click the boundary button at top right , then choose whether to draw a Polygon or a Circle.

    For a Polygon:

    1. Click a point on the map to begin. Think of this as the first point of the shape you're drawing.
    2. Move your mouse and click again. This creates a line between the two points.
    3. Repeat as needed, drawing lines around the area you want to capture. Do not cross back over any lines you've already created.
    4. End by clicking back on the initial point to create an enclosed shape.

    5. For a Circle:

    1. Click the center of the area you want to circle.
    2. Move your mouse to make the circle wider.
    3. When the circle is the size you want it click the mouse.
  3. A window appears. Click in the "Enter Boundary Name" field and enter what you want to call this area.
  4. Click OK.
  5. A window appears reading "Boundary saved successfully!" and the boundary menu changes to show the boundary name and a list of available functions. Click OK to finish.

Part II: Create the Route

  1. When a boundary is selected the Boundary Menu at top-right of the map displays the name of the saved boundary. In the Boundary Menu of the map click Reports > Customer Report.

Note: If you need to select a boundary click the three-line button at top left, click Boundary Key, and select a boundary from the list.

  2. Click Create a Route.

  3. Enter a name for the new route and click OK to finish.

When You're Done

The new route is created in Trash Flow. It's sorted based on the order in which you added different pins to the map. Since different kinds of map markers can be added in any order you may want to optimize the route, sort it by address, or change the order manually.

Example: We first showed the route "Tues. Rangi" on the map, then added "Tues. Patricia". The sets of markers placed on the map always go in this color order: purple, green, blue, coral, orange, red, yellow. Here Trash Flow would put the purple pins first on the route, followed by the green pins. You may wish to then sort the route by name or address after it's created.
