Using the Map and Navigating with Tablets

Description

This explains how to view and use the maps on the TeleRoute tablet app as well as navigate between stops.

Before You Begin

AVS must be set up within Trash Flow to map all the locations and routes need to be uploaded. The driver must have TeleRoute installed on a tablet and be able to log in.

Context

TeleRoute uses the mapping software built into your tablet (Google Maps for Android devices, Apple Maps for iPads). The locations of stops along the way are coming directly from Trash Flow; your tablet is using the latitude and longitude already supplied and placing those pins on top of the map. The driver's position is calculated using a combination of cell tower telemetry, the inertial navigation built in to the tablet, and any WiFi network where the tablet is currently logged in.

Ways to use

The map should always show the next stop to be picked up (the next route stop or work order location). You can tap a different stop/location on your list to refocus the map there. Tapping the three dots in the upper-right hand corner will give some additional options to help you get around.

  • Jump to Stop lets you enter a stop number and immediately moves the list to that stop, refocusing the map.
  • Jump to First or Jump to Last will take you to the beginning or end of the route.
  • Jump to Truck does not change the stop number on the left, but re-centers the map on the truck's current location.
  • Tapping the blue diamond with a white arrow in the lower-right hand corner of the map opens the Navigation instructions in Google Maps. This will give you turn-by-turn directions from the truck's current location to whichever location was selected in TeleRoute.
