Understanding Placements and Containers

If you have the Container Tracking module of Trash Flow you can use the Boxes tab on a customer account to track what kind of container(s) a customer has and where they are. You might think of a container placement as a kind of parking space for a single container. (That "single" distinction is important because if a customer has, say, three of your containers at a job site you would create a container placement for each one.) Some companies want to track which specific box is where—there's a sticker, or a stencil, or a metal tag on the box with a number that you track. If you want to track your containers this way you can assign a container to a specific placement. You don't have to, though; plenty of companies only want to know that a customer has a 4-yrd rear load or a 30-yrd roll-off box, not which specific box they have.

Container Placement Window

Please understand that rates, addresses, payment terms, work order information, and notes are not saved with the container itself, but here on the container placement screen. Because of this you can easily set different rates for container disposal per customer. If the size and yardage of the container and the placement don't match exactly Trash Flow shows a warning about container size; the extra step lets you decide if you need to change something. Please note that if the customer pays different tax rates depending on where the box is located you should set up each location as a sub-account using the Bill To function, then set up individual placements on those sub-accounts.

When you place a container, Trash Flow will fill in some information automatically: the type and capacity of the container, a description of its size, the customer's name and physical address, and the current business date. If the container is at a different location than the primary physical address saved on the account, you can right-click within the address window or press F3 to change the placement address. From this screen you can also set the container placement to Inactive, stopping pickup of a placed container; this is usually used for seasonal customers. If Disable Auto Work Order is checked, the placement will be skipped when creating a group of work orders for a route.
