Running Trash Flow Tests

System > Maintenance > Tests

You won't need to run these in the normal course of using Trash Flow. These tests are built into the software to diagnose problems with network connectivity.

  • Database Speed Test: This checks the performance of two factors: your network latency and your “read” performance on the server’s hard drive. Network latency measures the time from when you click something in Trash Flow to when the server receives it PLUS the time for the server to send information back to Trash Flow on your computer. Read performance measures how quickly the server can write new entries into your data. The results window here lets you know how good your results are.
  • FTP Communications Test: Trash Flow uses File Transfer Protocol (FTP) to update the program, send backups to our offices, and for a few other minor processes. This is a quick way to check “Is the Internet connected between me and the servers with my data?”.
  • Pickup TB Activity: If you see any kind of errors when trying to pick up web payments come run this test. If it shows a problem, make sure your computer is connected to the Internet. You can always try picking up web payments again later, but if this problem lasts for more than 20 minutes or so please give us a call.
  • Process AutoPay: If you see any kind of errors when trying to send an autopay batch run this test. If it shows a problem, make sure your computer is connected to the Internet. You can always try sending the batch again later, but if this problem lasts for more than 20 minutes or so please give us a call.
  • Send Email Bills: If you see any kind of errors when trying to send out email bills run this test. If it shows a problem make sure your computer is connected to the Internet. You can always try emailing the bills again later, but if this problem lasts for more than 20 minutes or so please give us a call.
