Starting a Landfill Ticket

Enter an ID Number for the vehicle. Add or change the Owner, Description, or Customer, if desired. If using a scale link, wait until the amount in the Enter Weight field stabilizes, then press Enter. (If not using a scale link, simply type in the Enter Weight field and press Enter.) Choose an Origin/Destination. Click Send Truck to Yard.

About Starting a Landfill Ticket

Landfill tickets follow a certain sequence of events. A new vehicle shows up and is given an ID Number. Some operators give each visitor a unique ID, usually the vehicle’s license plate. Others prefer to reuse ID numbers, creating large numbered cards (1, 2, 3, etc.) and handing a card to each vehicle as it enters. Since many landfill and transfer station customers will not receive a recurring bill, you can simply list them as a “Cash Customer” rather than track each visitor’s name. (See this link for further explanation of how a vehicle’s ID number, owner, and customer work together in TipTicket.) The vehicle is weighed, then sent to the yard. TipTicket tracks which vehicles have been sent to the yard; when a vehicle returns to the scale house, the operator can quickly pull up the record, enter the closing weight, and charge the customer.

Using Split Scaling

Sometimes you may need to weigh a truck that’s too large to fit on your scale. You can still record the entire weight using TipTicket’s split scaling feature. Weigh the front half of the truck as usual and have the driver pull forward. When weighing the rear half, press Shift+Enter instead of just pressing Enter; this will add the current weight to what you’ve already recorded instead of replacing it. You can now click Send Truck to Yard and proceed normally.
