Selecting a Database

Once Trash Flow is installed, you’ll need to tell the program where your business data is stored. This will be either in a MySQL database or as a single SQLite file. (Unlike in earlier versions of Trash Flow, your data is not stored as files in the working directory.) If you have not yet created a database or are unsure which to choose, see this link about creating a database.

Click your Start button in Windows and go to All Programs > Trash Flow 3 > SelectDB. If your data is saved in a SQLite file, click Store data on my hard drive; if you have set up a MySQL server, click Connect to a MySQL database server. If your data is in a SQLite database file, simply navigate to where this file is saved on your computer; it will have a .db extension at the end of the filename. Click Open to save this as your database setting.

If you have created a MySQL database, enter the Username, Password, and Database name you chose when setting up the database, then click Search for MySQL. This should fill in the remaining fields with information from your server. (If for whatever reason this process does not work, enter the IP address of the server in the Hostname field and set the Port number to 3306.) Click Test Connection. If all the information is correct you should receive the message Test Successful Secure; click OK on that message and click Save. You can now start Trash Flow. If you do not know how to find the server’s IP address or have any other trouble with this process, please give us a call at 800-708-8642.
