Fixing an Incorrect Location On a Map
Description
This describes how to fix any missing or incorrect map locations on the customer Maps tab.
Before You Begin
Trash Flow's Address Verification System is necessary to see customer locations on a map. It's also a good idea to let the program finish attempting to geocode all addresses before correcting problems (the AVS line on the Reports button of Trash Flow will count down to zero, then disappear).
Context
Trash Flow uses a combination of Google Maps and an open-source project called Open Street Maps to find customer locations. The process is typically about 95% accurate, though this varies by location around the country. Areas undergoing new home construction are particularly unreliable. If Trash Flow cannot find an address please go through the following steps in order until it is resolved.
Steps To Follow
- Click the Maps tab on the customer account. As the computer tries to load the map here Trash Flow goes through a slightly different process than it does when geocoding all addresses; sometimes this alone will find the account.
- If that does not work, try editing the physical address to change something minor--change St to Street or vice-versa, for instance. Any time you change the address Trash Flow will attempt to geocode the location again.
- If the address does not show up, look it up on the website httpss://maps.google.com. Google Maps will sometimes suggest a different format for the address.
- The final method will always work: edit the address to be on a different, nearby street that the mapping website can find.(Don't worry, it can later be corrected.) Drag the map pin to the correct location; satellite view can help with this. Once the pin is in the correct location, edit the address again back to the way you would want it to appear on the route sheet. Trash Flow will ask if you want it to try geocoding the address again; click.
When You're Done
Once the map pin is corrected it appears correctly on the drivers' tablets, route maps, dispatch list, etc.
